| Tours over the Border ! 4th November 2006 |
We recently had our first request to take a tour "over the Border" from Glasgow. So, after checking our driver's visas and innoculations were up to date, we set off. We had a day touring around the southern Lake District - through Kendal, Ambleside and on to Beatrix Potter's home at Hill Top. We had lunch in the fabulous "Drunken Duck", then went down to the Laurel and Hardy Museum at Ulverston (birthplace of Stan Laurel). After that, we visited the beautiful village of Cartmel for some of their famous Sticky Toffee Pudding with Banoffee Sauce, and finally drove down to Blackpool to drive along the front and see all of the illuminations. On the second day, we visited Carlisle Castle, then headed up to Hadrian's Wall to visit the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda Roman Fort and town. We had lunch at the fabulous "Milecastle Inn" (try their wild boar and duckling pie), before having a look at the sycamore tree made famous by the film "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves". The scenery was amazing on both days, so we may add this trip to our itinerary.
