We'll head straight to St Andrews, with the remains of its 13th century Cathedral and walled town. As well as being a beautiful town in its own right, it is the home of golf, and site of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club.

From St Andrews, we'll take the coastal road around the East Neuk of Fife, passing 16th century fishing ports and market villages, before heading inland again from Elie, past the refurbished mill towns of Ceres and Bridgend and the ancient tower of Scotstarvit to Falkland.

Falkland is a gorgeous mediaeval market town. It is the home of the oldest tennis court in the world, dating back to the early 16th century, as well as Falkland Palace. The Palace is an old hunting lodge, upgraded by Mary Queen of Scots in the 16th century, into her favourite palace. If time allows we can take a tour, or simply walk around its gardens.

From Falkland, we head for the reconstructed 16th century town of Culross. Culross was the site of the world's first deep coal mine, and has several beautifully preserved dwelling places, from merchants' houses, to the local laird's palace. Wandering around its cobbled streets feels just like stepping back in time.

After Culross, we'll head back to our starting point.

Along the way, we'll fit in comfort breaks and photo stops, and will try to be as flexible as possible.
